About Us Jeffrey and Marianne Saulsbury, the principle officers of Saulsbury Environmental Consultants, Inc. recognized in the early 1980's that aspects associated with the indoor environment in our homes are having an increasing effect on the health of America's families. As homes have become better insulated and "tighter", an increasing number of people are developing allergies and there is an alarming increase in childhood asthma. The build-up of radon gas in homes and growth of mycotoxic/pathogenic molds has coincided with the use of modern synthetic building materials, polyisocyanate foam insulation, house wrap, and the fact that homes with air-conditioning are kept closed during the warmer months in addition to the normal heating season. In older homes, hazards involving lead paint and asbestos can occur if necessary precautions aren't taken, particularly when renovating/restoring an old home. Saulsbury Environmental Consultants, Inc. was established in 1987 to evaluate the home environment and provide information and assistance to homeowners for correcting any hazards that might exist. Jeffrey Saulsbury graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health. He received a Masters degree in Health and Safety Sciences in 1990. Jeffrey has been a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists. Marianne Saulsbury graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health with a minor in Biology. Marianne received certifications in Microscopical Identification of Asbestos and Air Sampling and Evaluation of Airborne Asbestos Fibers. Saulsbury Environmental Consultants, Inc. is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (certification numbers: 1663; 000919). Much of the environmental testing that is done in homes, particularly radon testing, is performed during the purchase of a home. As a result, many ordinary home inspectors and some real estate agents are now performing radon testing. A growing number of homeowners are discovering years later that their exposure to radon is higher than originally reported because the inspector that performed their test did not understand testing protocol and test variables which can result in an inaccurate interpretation of findings. When selecting a professional to perform home environmental testing it is strongly recommended to inquire about the individual's qualifications, experience, educational background and quality assurance procedures. |
